“Tragedy - Ecstasy - Doom”

Vanhelgd welcomes Jonas Albrektsson to the band. Jonas has a past in Thy Primordial, Indungeon, Niden Div. 187, Thy Primordial, Carcaroht and is now active in King of Asgard and grind core veterans Retaliation. He also had a short affair with Ceremonial Execution. We are very glad that Jonas wanted to join Vanhelgd and we think that he will contribute a lot in making our next album the way we want it: dark and crushing!
Vanhelgd is now totally focused on writing and rehearsing new material. It has been a slow process but now we are not so far from a whole album. No (official) shows are planned for 2013. We hope that we can start record an album later this year if we feel that the songs are ready for it.

“A monument of bones, built on nameless graves”

From a Christian perspective the mocking of the “sacred”, the “holy”, the “good”, the “just”, the “true” and a selective misuse of the holy mass and the bible, is a sure mark of the devil. Religion made the devil, and now devil laughs back at the believers. Vanhelgd accept no god. Vanhelgd accept no religious text as law or governor of man. Vanhelgd spit on all that is holy and piss on your sanctuaries and gods. “Church of Death” is a declaration of war upon you gods!

Church of Death is the second album from the Swedish death metal band Vanhelgd. In November 2010 an EP called “Praise the Serpent was released consisting of two songs from the same recording session as “Church of Death” but with another mix.

On Church of Death Vanhelgd develops their aggressive aspects as well as a more ominous manifestation with a felling of doom. The album haunts the cemetery as well as submerging the listener into the black abyss. There are some rather clear differences between “Church of Death” and “Cult of Lazarus” but also a lot of similarities. Both albums have a kind of shattered personality in common, but “Church of death” has a more focused and elaborated arrangement and mood within each song.

Limited die hard Pic LP version with patch and sticker. Both versions include A2 poster and insert.

28/11 We are proud to annonce a new Vanhelgd release!

Vanhelgd “Praise the Serpent” 12″ EP
(Nucler War Now! Records)

The “Praise the Serpent” EP consists of two old Ceremonial Execution songs that have been disinterred, molested and dismembered by Vanhelgd. The songs were originally intended for the “Church of Death” album but were taken out due to lack of space on the record. The first song “Praise the Serpent” includes Robert Kardell from Ceremonial Execution on vocals and winds its way slowly into the dark stinking swamps of the human mind. The second song, “the Triumph of Death” is an examination of the intersection point between life and death, the absence hope and an excavation of the mass graves of the battlefield.

In the end of the year 2007 Vanhelgd was formed by Björn Andersson (drums), Jimmy Johansson(guitars, backup vocals) and Mattias Frisk(Guitars vocals). The intention was to play dark, blood soaked death metal in the vein of the old masters. Songs were taking form and the need for a bass player became more and more urgent. In the beginning of 2008 the old friend Viktor Gustafsson stepped in to handle the base guitar. A very ruff demo was recorded during a rehearsal and some of the songs where published on the internet. Soon the interest for the band grew and Vanhelgd recorded eight songs in Backbone studios in Mjölby and the first full length album “Cult of Lazarus” was released by Crematorium Records in November 2008. The band got in contact with the US based  Nuclear War Now! Records who decided to release “Cult of Lazarus” as a 12” LP in 2009. In the Summer of 2009 Vanhelgd recorded a couple of new songs as a demo. One of the tracks from that session, “Nec spe, nec metu” was featured on the “Invocation of death” compilation, released in june 2010 by Death invocation records. Vanhelgd started to work with the recording for their second ful-length album “Church of Death” in april 2010. Due to various problems they didn’t finish until September the same year. Two of the songs were taken out to be featured on the EP “Praise the Serpent which was released on the Nuclear War Now! Fest part 2 in Berlin where the band also performed.
